Health
Center Governance
- Roles and Responsibilities of Board Members.
Increasing access to care for migrant and seasonal farmworkers
in a jointly funded Community and Migrant Health Center
is a challenge to the survival of any health center. An
informed Board of Directors that understands their roles
and responsibilities is key to maintaining the farmworker
focus. This session will address the role of all board members
in increasing access to farmworker populations in spite
of the lack of third party re-imbursement and the hard to
reach nature of the population.
- Introduction to MHC Mission, Board Structure
and By-laws. This session is designed to assist in the
orientation of new MHC Board Members, especially those representing
the farmworker population. Participants will be provided
with the tools to ascertain their health center's mission,
the structure of the board, the importance of the by-laws,
and the basic knowledge required of board members.
- BPHC Expectations of Migrant Health Centers.
The Bureau of Primary Health Care cites specific expectations
of health centers funded through this HHS funding source.
Compliance with these expectations is critical to effective
operations and continued funding. This session is intended
to provide participants with the information and tools to
understand these expectations.
- Involving MHC Board Members in Corporate
Strategic Planning. Migrant & Community Health Centers
are continually challenged to meet the demands of reaching
an under served and under insured population, in a very
competitive environment. Now that C/MHCs are charged with
increasing the number of patients served, it is critical
that they plan strategically how they will accomplish this
goal. This session is intended to provide Migrant and Community
Health Center Board Members and administrative staff with
the basic information about the need, the process, the frequency
and the benefits of health center strategic planning.
