 Migrant Specific Expertise

Each of these services may be adapted to meet the individual health center needs and time constraints. The full description of each of these technical assistance services and training seminars, as well as faculty credentials are available upon request.

 Health Center Management
  • Leadership Effectiveness and New Strategies (LENS). This is an on-site technical assistance service, custom tailored to individual health center organizational strategic planning and implementation needs. LENS is a powerful, well tested method, which is inclusive, highly interactive and extensively used in both the non-profit and for-profit world. The LENS process guides the health center through the strategic planning process and works on the premise that the problems and their solutions do not lie outside of the health center. Through five half day sessions, LENS guides the health center to determine its practical vision, analyzes the barriers to reach the vision, determines the strategic proposals, forms task forces and develops charters for action with route maps and benchmarks to evaluate results.
  • Situational Leadership. A Migrant Health Center's staff is its greatest asset and also its greatest investment. Invest in your health center's increased productivity and customer satisfaction by training your management staff and supervisors in effective delegation skills. Situational Leadership is a highly effective organizational training method, which has been developed by Dr. Paul Hersey of the Center for Leadership Studies in Escondido, CA. Participants in this training will be able to effectively diagnose the readiness of their subordinates and adjust their leadership style to be effective for each situation and identify the steps necessary to improve productivity on the job. Health centers can obtain this workshop in a one-day format, however to receive the full benefit of skill development, the two-day workshop is recommended.
  • Group Facilitation Training and Team Practice. This seminar is intended to provide the participants with the method and techniques to lead successful participatory meetings, which will produce clear deliverables. This method allows management and staff to discuss an issue, learn from the past, share valuable experiences and insights and come to some clear conclusions. The facilitator will teach the O-R-I-D approach, which allows the group to move though Objective data, Reflect on experiences, Interpret shared understandings and Decide their conclusion, proposals or next steps.
  • The Power to Serve. This seminar will guide the participants to experience the strength of their association with each other, the interdependence of their relationships as they strive to better address the needs of those they serve. The benefits of this workshop include transformed mindsets, new perspectives, and clearer attitudes about the work that we do, the people we work with, and the part that our work plays in the fulfillment of our whole life.
  • Communication Skills Seminar. This service is intended to improve communications in the work place by guiding the participants in the discussion of issues of trust and to build a "safe place" to work. In this workshop, time is devoted to the identification of communication barriers and the determination of communication guidelines and ground rules. The facilitator guides the group in the buy-in process for the adaptation of corporate guidelines for communication and working relationships designed by the group. This service is best delivered as a two-day organizational technical assistance tailored to meet the individual needs of each Migrant Health Center client.
  • Fund Raising Seminar. This seminar is intended to provide the participants with the nuts and bolts of the art of fundraising. It will provide insight to the philanthropic tradition and the three phases of fundraising relationships. It will teach how to build relationships with donors and how to define the needs and objectives for your fundraising plan.
