Network
Development & Expansion
Migrant health centers are often located in economically
poor, isolated rural areas with unique challenges in recruitment
of appropriately trained bilingual, bicultural professionals.
The demand for services among diverse and competing patient
populations often exceeds health centers' capacity. To address
this situation, NCFH is actively working on expanding the
network of migrant and community health centers and other
providers to increase access to primary and specialty care
for farmworkers as they work and travel across the country.
At the core of this endeavor is to develop and sustain collaborative
working relationships at the national and state levels in
order to advocate for implementation of policies, and financial
and technical resources for Migrant Health, and secondly to
provide access to a cadre of health professionals who will
provide farmworkers with cost effective services.
Two of our current programs address this challenge, the Call
for Health Program and the SCHIP
and Medicaid Demonstration Project.
