Protect
Your Kids Now!
- Your children probably qualify for free or low cost health
insurance from the Children's Health Insurance Program (called
CHIP) or from Medicaid. Changes in the law have made more
children eligible for free or low cost insurance from states
than ever before!
- This insurance is available in all states (eligibility
and benefits do vary from state to state).
- You do not have to be on Welfare to get this insurance.
You do not have to lose your job or be a single parent to
get this insurance.
- You can probably make a lot more money than you think
you can and still be eligible to get this insurance for
your children.
- If you are a legal resident, getting this insurance will
not count as Public Charge (something that can hurt your
chance of becoming a U.S. citizen).
- This insurance will let you make sure that your children
up to age 18 can get checkups, immunuzations, prescriptions
and dental care. They will be covered for visits to the
doctor or if they have to go into the hospital.
- If you have never applied for this insurance -- or even
if you applied and couldn't get it in the past -- your children
may be eligible NOW. It is worth the time to find out or
to try again.
To talk to the children's health insurance people in your
state to find out how to enroll you can call this toll free
number from anywhere in the U.S. 1-877-KIDS-NOW (1-877-543-7669).
It will be answered in the state from which you are calling.
If you have trouble getting the answers you need through
the KIDS NOW line, you can call Call
For Health at 1-800-377-9968 for bilingual assistance,
Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central
Standard Time.
This is a NCFH project with support from US Department of Health and Human Services (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB).
