Support
Migrant Health Centers and their service delivery sites often
function in isolation from similar health delivery entities.
Migration of patients from state to state makes continuity
of care, a critical component for both chronic and acute problems,
nearly impossible. Often the peer that the MHC professional
needs to contact to provide continuity in patient care is
2000 miles away in a home base or upstream clinic. Communication
among peers within migrant health profession is limited, and
community based migrant service coalitions are few. Although
anecdotal information abounds, hard data on specific health
indicators is extremely limited or unavailable. The general
public (the consumers of the labors of the farmworker population)
is largely uninformed. It is critical that information, products,
and services be available to support health centers, private
providers, individuals and organizations serving farmworkers
and their families and that accurate information about farmworkers
is readily available
In support of the network, NCFH provides a comprehensive
package of information services to the network of migrant
and community health centers and other providers that will
enhance their ability to provide primary care services to
migrant and seasonal farmworkers, thus increasing access to
care for the population.
