Increase Access to care Program & training

The Increase Access to Care for Ag Workers (IAC) Program and associated training opportunities were launched in collaboration with the Ag Worker Access Campaign, to assist Community and Migrant Health Center staff in accurately identifying and reporting their Ag worker patients in UDS.  Since then, the Program has grown to include a national virtual network comprised of health centers, health center-controlled networks and primary care associations working together toward the mutual goal of increasing access to care for Ag workers and their families.

Increase Access to Care for Ag Workers (IAC) Program

About the program
Picture
The IAC Program was designed to assist Health Centers in accurately identifying, registering and reporting their patients…We know that Ag workers are being served, but are not always asked the right questions and, therefore, often not identified as Ag workers and reported properly in UDS. IAC Program members represent a national network of Health Centers, Health Center-Controlled Networks and Primary Care Associations. Through the IAC Program, which consists of training, learning collaborative activities, and support, NCFH has been able to help Health Centers modify their current systems and registration processes to demonstrate their effectiveness. As a result, participating health center patient registration teams are implementing the steps necessary to identify and accurately report Ag workers when they register, and are participating in Migrant Health Program Action Planning to reach their increase access goals.

The IAC Program has three infrastructure concepts that serve as foundational pillars of the program and are seen as critical to Health Center success in increasing care for MSAWs, including:
  1. Health Center Policies & Procedures,
  2. Workforce Development and Training, and
  3. Program Outreach.
More information about the IAC Program Pillars is available in the IAC Program Pillar Infographic resource.

Comprehensive Training for Organization & Staff
Our IAC training is a comprehensive, robust training designed to build staff capacity and maximize your organization's systems and strategies to achieve your goals related to increasing access to quality health care for Agricultural workers and their families.

The  training strives to achieve four main objectives:
  • Equip organizational leaders with all the tools necessary to provide on-going training and retraining of staff, standardize intake procedures across all sites, and increase their ability to accurately report the number of Ag Workers and dependents in annual UDS reports
  • Increase knowledge and ability to identify and document all Ag Workers and their family members in the registration process
  •  Develop appropriate strategies to elicit information in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner
  •  Increase each participant’s ability to review and update patient registration and outreach procedures

NCFH staff will then provide on-going support for each participating health center  organization and/or PCA and its members through program implementation, data analysis & reporting, and on-going training  through the IAC Network Learning Collaborative.
