Did you know that arthritis is a growing problem among migrant and seasonal farmworkers? In fact, the Missouri Arthritis Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (MARRTC) has estimated that 1 to 1.7 million migrant and seasonal farmworkers are affected by arthritis. Farm work is a physically demanding job that places a lot of stress on the joints and this can lead to pain in the back, neck, and wrists and potentially arthritis. In response to this growing problem and to help farmworkers prevent arthritis and cope with joint pain. The NCFH and MARRTC have recently developed the "Let's Talk About Arthritis", (Hablemos Sobre Artritis) a prevention and self management program on arthritis specifically created for migrant and seasonal farmworkers. The training program is designed to be implemented by lay health workers (promotores de salud).

This 2 day training curriculum provides lay health workers with the most relevant topics on arthritis. The following are the lessons included in this curriculum:

Lesson 1:     Introduction to the Program

Lesson 2:      Understanding the Farmworker Culture and Its Impact on Arthritis Education

Lesson 3:      Introduction to Arthritis

Lesson 4:     Osteoarthritis

Lesson 5:     Rheumatoid Arthritis

Lesson 6:      Arthritis Prevention and Control

Lesson 7:      Teaching Strategies in Practice

Lesson 8:      Accessing Arthritis Resources
