Like all Americans, the NCFH team has been deeply impacted by the pandemic, and have witnessed the heavy toll SARS-CoV-2 has had on rural areas and farmworker communities across the country. As of January 2020, researchers estimate that more than 400,000 farmers and farmworkers have contracted COVID-19, and the economic effects of the pandemic have left many farm communities struggling.
Even though the NCFH team has gone remote, we have been working extremely hard to support Migrant Health Centers and farmworker-serving organizations responding to the pandemic in their communities. Some of our work around COVID-19 is highlighted below.
Partnering with the CDC:
In October 2020, NCFH received a cooperative agreement award to partner with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to build strength & resilience among the many farmworker-serving organizations in the U.S. and to develop strategies & resources to help prevent and mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on farmworker communities. If you would like to learn more about this project, please contact our Manager of Evaluation and Special Projects.
NCFH has provided over 150 consulations and technical assistance encounters to more than 1,000 individuals around COVID-19. We have also conducted 44 COVID-related trainings for more than 2,000 participants across the country since April 2020.
NCFH has produced a number of COVID-19 related resources, and has curated a number of excellent resources from other farmworker-focused organizations. Click below to see resources for:
