The National Center for Farmworker Health (NCFH), in partnership with the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC), is excited to announce a new era for agricultural worker-specific workforce development training opportunities, as we transition from the Regional Stream Forum format we have historically offered. To keep up with the ever-changing needs of the health center workforce, we will host two national Agricultural Worker Health Symposia a year moving forward. Each training event will focus on a topic area of high priority to staff and board of health centers and other agricultural worker-serving organizations.
What is a Symposia?
The Cambridge Dictionary defines Symposia as an event where knowledgeable people gather to discuss a particular subject of topic of interest. With this definition in mind, NCFH will base these Symposia events on three foundational pillars: 1) In depth learning; 2) Community and Connectedness; and 3) Leadership Development. These pillars encompass critical elements such as providing a deeper dive into agricultural worker health-specific topics, intentional opportunities for stories from the field, peer-to-peer exchange of challenges, promising practices and strategies, and a space for multi-disciplinary collaboration, discussion, and planning for deliberate, focused application to service delivery practices, as well as a unified voice to share perspectives on priority topics.
What is the goal of these events?
In alignment with NCFH’s mission, our goal for these training events is to improve the health of agricultural worker families by providing the best possible workforce development training to strengthen the ability of health centers and other organizations to serve them. We know that to continue building upon the work of our colleagues across the U.S through the Ag Worker Access Campaign, we must foster the development of Migrant Health Leaders that will continue the charge of increasing access to quality health care services for migratory and seasonal agricultural worker families.
Who are we partnering with?
NCFH is looking forward to working with our partners at the BPHC, Primary Care Associations, the Farmworker Health Network, and health centers nationwide as we move forward with this new endeavor!
What can I expect?
These events promise to bring transformative workforce development trainings focused on advancing technical knowledge and collaboration in the field of agricultural worker health. Learn from key experts and exchange promising practices with ag worker-serving colleagues from across the U.S. Come ready to learn, engage, and share!!
