Increase Access to Care Program & Training

The Increase Access to Care for Migratory and Seasonal Agricultural Workers (IAC) Program and associated training opportunities were launched to assist health center staff in accurately identifying, classifying and reporting their MSAW patients in the Uniform Data System (UDS).

Since its creation in 2015, the IAC Program has expanded into a national virtual network of health centers, health center-controlled networks, and primary care associations working together toward the mutual goal of increasing access to full-scope and consistent primary health care services for MSAW families.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The IAC Program was designed to assist health centers in accurately identifying, registering, and reporting their patients. We know that MSAWs are being served, but are not always asked the right questions and, therefore, often not identified and reported properly in the UDS.

Through the IAC Program, which consists of training, small group trainings, and support, NCFH has been able to help health centers modify their current systems and registration processes to demonstrate their effectiveness. As a result, participating health center teams are implementing the steps necessary to identify and accurately report MSAWs and their families when they register and are also participating in Program Action Planning as a strategic approach to increasing access to comprehensive primary healthcare services for this special medically underserved population.

The IAC Program has three infrastructure concepts that serve as foundational pillars of the program and are seen as critical to health center success in increasing care for MSAWs, including:

1. Health Center Policies & Procedures,
2. Workforce Development and Training, and
3. Program Outreach.

More information about the IAC Program Pillars is available in the IAC Program Pillar Infographic resource.

Comprehensive Training for Organizations & Staff

Our IAC training program is a comprehensive, robust training designed to build staff capacity and strengthen organization systems that support increased access to full-scope, consistent primary health care services for MSAWs. The training strives to achieve four core objectives:

  • Equip organizational leaders with the tools to provide ongoing staff training, standardize intake procedures across sites, and improve accuracy in UDS reporting of MSAWs and their families
  • Enhance knowledge and skills to identify and document all MSAWs and their family members during the registration process
  • Develop effective strategies to elicit needed information
  • Strengthen organizational capacity to regularly assess and refine patient registration and outreach processes

Following the training, NCFH staff provide ongoing support through:

  • Program implementation guidance
  • Data analysis and reporting
  • Continued training and support through the IAC Small Group Training
