Farmworker-serving organizations such as health centers, legal aid organizations, and community-based organizations play a critical role in reaching communities of farmworkers, who often experience multiple barriers in accessing community resources. Outreach workers and Community Health Workers (CHWs) have the opportunity to be proactive in providing farmworkers with the appropriate information and supplies they need during the pandemic and beyond. NCFH is committed to working with farmworker-serving organizations to equip advocates with valuable resources for farmworker outreach. If you would like to get involved in our farmworker network such as participate in a coalition, questions about farmworker outreach or would like NCFH to include your resource on our webpage, contact Yvette Salinas.
Digital Tools and Templates
NCFH has compiled some digital tools that can help with farmworker outreach planning and data collection during outreach events. Explore the tools below!
Useful Planning Tools
H-2 tool developed by Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid (TRLA) allows farmworker advocates to track job postings and plan for outreach. Quarterly and daily data is updated automatically from the DOL's seasonal jobs website. |
View these simple video tutorials on using the Texas RioGrande Legal Aid's H2 tool as farmworker advocates searching for data to inform outreach planning to H-2A workers. The English and Spanish video series demonstrate the "All Search Data" feature, the various uses of the map function, and how to search for farmworkers by employer name. The videos are brought to you by the Farmworker Paralegal Team at Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid.

The Farm Labor Data Dashboard was developed by NCFH to centralize nationally available data related to farmworkers in the U.S. The dashboard is an interactive, web-based tool that integrates data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and others to gain an understanding of the national landscape of farm labor. |
The Department of Labor’s FLAG system is a portal used by both employers and federal agencies to access the database of current H-2A work orders. The system provides employers and applicants access to track time-sensitive information related to temporary labor certification applications with the Office of Foreign Labor Certifications (OFLC). The work orders detail when H-2A workers are in a state, how many workers were certified and where they live during their stay in the United States. Because this data is public, farmworker serving-organizations can use this tool to inform outreach plans throughout the year. |
H5N1 avian flu continues to spread among cattle, poultry, and wildlife, and farmworkers have an increased risk of becoming infected if they work with animals. Outreach workers visiting animal farms may also be at risk. NCFH has drafted guidelines to prevent H5N1 infection for outreach workers who are reaching animal production workers on farms, in their homes, and in the community. These guidelines will be updated on an on-going basis. You can view the recorded webinar about the guidelines and other tools for outreach to dairy workers here: https://youtu.be/wTJgFu5bg8Y

Outreach Apps to Consider for Data Collection
Kobo Tool Box is a free data, open-source collection app that allows users to build forms and collect interview responses. The app can be used online and offline and has a strong safeguard against data loss. The synchronize data via SSL features ensures data can’t be read by a third party. NCFH has field-tested this tool and has found it to be very reliable even in areas where there is no cell service, and the tool can be used in multiple languages. |
