Our research team draws on academic training and lived experience to create research with and for farmworker families in collaboration with federal and state agencies, universities, and non-profit organizations. Learn more about our approach to research in farmworker communities here.

We provide a range of research collaboration opportunities, ranging from remote consultation to on-the-ground data collection:

  • Farmworker research advisors/advisory committees: We train farmworkers to act as decision-makers in research, and our staff have experience facilitating remote and in-person farmworker advisory committees in multiple languages.
  • Protocol design and development: Our on-the-ground experience in reaching thousands of farmworkers through outreach and data collection efforts can provide valuable insight in developing realistic protocols that will benefit and protect research participants. We can offer consultations on protocol development, or review and provide feedback on existing protocols.
  • Literature review: We have staff who regularly review literature for data and research that impacts farmworker communities and can provide this service for public health and social science researchers.
  • Data collection: We conduct mixed methods studies and have extensive experience in both quantitative and qualitative interview data collection in agricultural communities. Our team has conducted oral surveys with more than 5,000 farmworkers across the country since 2021, frequently interviewing more than 300 farmworkers in a single weekend. We have conducted in-depth interviews with nearly 150 farmworkers, agricultural employers, and local community experts in the same time frame.
  • Data analysis: Our team has expertise in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and can provide data analysis support for public health research projects. We have public health experts in epidemiology and biostatistics and can conduct statistical analysis and visualization in R, SAS, and STATA.
  • Language access in research: We have expertise in identifying languages and specific language varieties spoken by farmworkers and identifying skilled interpreters to increase language access in research programs. Our research team have conducted surveys and interviews in English and Spanish, and with interpreters in Haitian Creole, Patois, Mixteco, Zapoteco, K’iche’, Mam, Nahuatl, Tsotsil, Tzeltal, Afrikaans, among other languages. We have also conducted multiple pilot studies to assess farmworkers’ experience using interpreters in research and data collection efforts and can provide consultation on your language access plan and protocols.
  • Community findings workshops: We can help you shape your research findings into understandable and actionable presentations for community partners. NCFH research staff have conducted dozens of presentations and workshops involving community partners in helping to clarify and contextualize research findings and identify ways to take action on the findings.
  • Translation to implementation: Our research team works closely with staff who have expertise in putting research findings into action, such as developing trainings, creating health education materials, and providing presentations for policymakers. We can support your team in translating your research findings into actionable next steps.
