America's Farmworkers: There are approximately 3-5 million migrant and seasonal farmworkers in the United States. They are the backbone of the American agricultural industry and their work impacts almost every state in the nation. However, almost three quarters of this work force earn less than $13,000 annually and their health status is at the same standard of most Third World Nations. Over 85% of the fruits and vegetables produced in this country are hand harvested and/or cultivated by farmworkers. The faces of farmworkers include men, women, children, and the elderly.
